My hard disk...

...was declared officially dead today at about 21:00 PM. The disk was only about nine months old, and it was a fine WD 250GB HDD. The cause of death were bad sectors in the boot sector, that destroyed the MFT completely. The bad sectors kept returning despite all efforts, and no data could be saved from the old drives.

Well, I just lost 4 years of data, and my entire porn collection. I feel like a piece of me just died.
Is this better?

Oh I transferred that data across 3 hard disks. The one before the WD was a Maxtor 160GB, and I can't remember the previous one, i think it had 40GBs.
Is this better?

When stating time in a 24-hour format, you don't (need to) specify AM or PM. Just sayin'
"Ignorance is the greatest weapon of tyranny, and old wounds open all too easily."

Porn first and everything else comes last... you men... *tut tut tut*

I have gotten into the habit of backing up my file (writings) and experimental data all the time these days. Just experimental raw data alone takes up to about 15GB of my hard drive a year. I don't have time for games or movies (not that I am a big fan of games) recently in particular because of school work... Whops, off topic again!

Mmm, you should play more games :). Maybe then you can convince Mrs Aldo to do so for me :D.

Complicated?.... More like very simple.... ;)
Wild Fragaria wrote:Hmmm, I would be happy to do you that favor but I know we non-gamers aren't easily convinced :D
Oh no! But what can I do to keep Mrs Aldo entertained on cold winter nights, then? :O

Simple minded - Associate lots of words with sex and porn. That's just too complicated for females like myself.

Oh dear, are you running out of ideas to keep Mrs. Aldo entertained? What about making her dinner and giving hr lots of hugs?

You could learn :D Just snigger anytime someone says otherwise innucous words like 'meat', 'melons', 'bedroom', 'hard', or 'throbbing veiny colossus'.

I don't think Mrs Aldo likes burnt dinner, though.

If it gets disk-shaped when it's hard, you might want to consider seeing a doctor. :P

But yes, regular backups = very good thing. I suffered through a hard drive intermittently suffering the Click o' Doom for several months before replacing it, and while I managed to luck out that time, I'm never going to take that chance again. I have over 20 DVD+R/RWs lying around with all sorts of backed-up files; I should really just bite the bullet and get an external at some point to save myself the bother.
A.K.A. Mongoose, for you HLP denizens
