I get the sneaking feeling I've suggested this before to no avail, but I digress........
How many people would be interested in participating in a community project - something along the lines of a traditional shmup, one ridiculously overpowered player craft versus hundreds of weak enemies? I was thinking cell-shaded (assuming it's still supported) for reasons that it looks more '16-bit' and should be easier than 'full' textures (anticipating any interest being as a '2nd project'), a few player-selectable ships with special weapons, and lots of simple, swarmy enemies. A sort of tecchy demo thing, if you will, with a few levels ala the 'gauntlet' ones in FS1/2. Maybe multiplayer co-op if we get ambitious.
