Well if you worked so hard to earn the money, why are you blowing it off like that? Getting a second-rate system(that can EASILY run anything out on the market today for half the price would make much more sense. It's what I do. I'm running a 1600+ Athlon XP and a Radeon 9800 Pro, that combo is about $350 today, and I have no problems running any game at all. Getting such a high-end system is just a waste of money.

I would agree, going for top of the line isn't always best. Going for "nearly" top of the line, and fine tuning it/tweaking it over the weeks/months is better IMHO.

better yet.......see if you cant get a good deal in a second hand shop somewhere....and beg around for old PCs. We got one entire PC (rather old, nearly useless, but working neverthelss) with some salvagable parts for $50!

Look around in the Garage sales; especially that of people about to move out of the country, it always seems to generate the best bargains here.......

....
*sigh* you guys sound just like MY GRANDMOTHER.

for starters, i don't have a job, currently.. so i'm just "another poor student" so what ELSE am i gonna blow my money on?.. i've already got a car.. it runs extremely well, and my only f#####g bill is for my ADSL ...

if you can't see that somebody is gonna do this as a bit of PRIDE to his own name, then you're blind..
i'd much rather buy decent computer parts, than buy addons for the car.

AND i'd much rather spend more dough in one go, then spend even more money on various second-hand upgrades as they get older, and perform slower..

i'm gearing up my machine for a specific purpose.. i need the extra ram and faster CPU to keep photoshop happy, and the new vidcard is to replace my aging radeon 9000.
that one went to hunter and kopax..

as for Singh
i live in devonport, tasmania... population, over 26,000.... i don't think people are gonna just have a decent computer system just /lying/ around in a garge sale... they're gonna take it with them if they go to the mainland.

But you could SAVE lots of money by taking time to select your computer and its parts from cheap, but reliable soruces... Thats our point. :?

I saved $800 of your dollars building my computer.

i'm buying all this online, and it includes the shipping charges, so, by doing the numbers, i just saved myself about 500 - 800 dollars..
hell, the radeon x800 would prolly retail about $1200-$1400 upawards. australian here. off the shelf..

i'm only gonna have to fork out $880

One question I need to ask is: Is that computer going to have to last you for a long time(5+ years)? If yes, then you are justified in spending that kind of money.

Second, Why a Radeon instead of a 6800?

When the PS3.0 games start coming out you'll be wanting the extra functionallity. Farcry was written with PS 3.0 in mind, with the previous patch adding the code hooks and the next one adding the functionality.

well, yeah, these specs last me for quite a while, heck, the parts i've got in here are close to 4 years old..

as for the X800?... i read the reviews, and the radeon x800 outperforms the 6800 in testing. especially in image quality...

aussies, pick up a copy of PC-Powerplay, all the reviews are there.
