Recently a good number of my efforts to post have met this:

Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 535 Incorrect authentication data

The post does appear to post itself, however.

No idea why the server would be trying to send mails. Have switched off the SMTP option as a result. Let me know.

It's trying to send email notifications for a new private message and getting rejected by the mailserver would be my guess.

Which is odd, because the auth details are correct. :S

You can try the phpbb support forums or just ignore it.
