Backseat modding

This problem certainly isn't limited to HLP alone, but I've noticed an increased number of instances there over the past few months. I'm sure anyone who's been in a mod-type position knows what I'm talking about: that certain individual who feels the need to state why a certain thread should be locked or moved, or why there doesn't need to be another topic on a particular subject, or things along those lines. I started getting annoyed when I had to split a load of off-topic posts from this thread for the second time (thanks to that board database glitch) and was getting questioned for doing so, but what's really pissed me off is having to repeat myself a good two or three times here. You'd think people could mind their own goddamn business and leave the moderating to the actual moderators, but no, that would be way too sensible.

I've simply threatened people who did it often enough with a monkeying. The correct response to a problem with a thread is to report the post/thread. That allows the admins and mods to decide what to do themselves.

If random forumites start thinking they're the ones getting threads locked you end up which a whole bunch of mini-mobius's running around telling everyone what to do with no authority to back it up.

I split the nonsense off into a thread here and I'm going to prepare a proper comment on the subject for those reading the threads.

EDIT: f### it, Ironforge is getting a week off. He's got a habit of pushing when he should leave things alone.

I never said I couldn't deal with it, but it irritates me nonetheless. :P I think it is easier to handle when you wear the admin mantle and can use threats like monkeying and temp-banning; all I'm able to do is come across as, "I'm gonna go tell Goober/karajorma on you! Neener neener!" I guess that's better than nothing, anyway. The real problem with it is exactly as karajorma said; as soon as you start letting mini-modding run rampant, the actual mods and admins have every single decision called into question by someone with a big mouth, and the whole thing turns into a giant mess.

(Oh, and thanks for splitting that off, kara. I was wondering if I should try to let it ride itself out, but it was probably best to excise it completely.)
