Suggestions?

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a good space game(shooter, RTS, whatever) to pass the time over the spring. Any suggestions as to what i should download?

I've been playing around with Vega Strike and Oolite of late, both quite fun games, but Vega Strike can be a bit crashy in my experience so save often
Both are freeware. Oh, and Vega Strike also has a somewhat annoying interface.

And there are some maps that you can go outside and see space, does that not count?

Ok, Ok! Well, I'm usually the one who says Descent isn't a space sim, anyway...
So, I hereby retract my recommendation of Descent, and instead will recommend... DESCENT 2!!! (tada!)

Got GalCiv2, it seems interesting, especially the ship designer(or whatever its name is) part.

I'll be happy with GalCiv 2 as soon as they fix the damned memory leaks and processing issues.
