Oooh, can we now turn this thread into file-saving tales of woe? Those are fun.
I remember for my year 12 Design and Technology major work, I was doing a long cutscene in truespace 6. Knowing how unstable it is and what it likes to crash from (ie, do too much at once, use some mid-range features, trying to edit a mesh, leaving it unattended for more than a few minutes, clicking anywhere in the screen, looking at it funny - you get the idea), I had it set to save 6 autobackup files (which is where it just sorta shuffles them down the list with each sucessive save) and was also periodically saving a copy to a separate folder.
At one point I seemed to be having a nice crash free run. "Ah, a lovely change" I thought.
Well.....yeah, not so much.
When it did eventually crash and I had to reload it, I found that it had corrupted my .scn file. Well no biggie, TS has done this sorta thing before.
But no-no-no! It wasn't just that one scn. TS had also seen fit to corrupt all 6 auto backup files and one of my separate folder backups! Basically, every save since the last crash had become corrupted.
So, the lesson I learned is that if TS isn't occupied with constant crashing, it's because it's busy planning something spectacular. Such as when it let me render a whole big animation to an .avi file, which would then hard-reset the WHOLE computer whenever I tried to view it in any media player. :\

Oh my god, I had SO many problems like that in GSCE. In one example I lost evidence of 30 vital records that where unrecoverable, so I had to redo the whole database.Vasudan Admiral wrote:Oooh, can we now turn this thread into file-saving tales of woe? Those are fun.

For my Max course I built a scene involving a car in a a garage surounded by tools 'n' what not. On the last night, for a quick cover picture for my folder, I deleted all but the car (was too lazy to hide stuff) and managed to overwrite the file
I had to jump in my car and rush home and grab a back up. phew!
