I'm trying to get a TV-Out

Ok, all I need is to know if this can be done... I'm useless at this particular field. Here's what I have:

A Geforce 3 Titanium 500 with dual-VGA and a S-VIDEO port,
And a S-VIDEO -> SCART converter cable with L/R audio conectors too.

What I want to do: Hook up my TV to the computer and have the ability to switch to the TV much the same way as a TVOUT. Can I do it with the above? My NVIDIA driver options don't have any "switch to TV out". All I need to know if it's possible, and what steps to take... i.e. if I need to find some new drivers, if I need to tune anything on my TV, etc.

If you're using the Scart socket, you need to find the TV/AV button on your remote control, that should let you switch between your computer's output and your normal TV. Other than that, it should be pretty easy ;)

Yeah, thought so... Though I want one of them X10 transmitters, so I can hook it up without lugging the computer to the large TV. So far I've only tried to get it working on one of them small 14" desk TVs.

Also, the drivers don't have any TV/SVIDEO options. Shall I just update? I seem to recall them being there once..

Well, it never hurts to update your drivers, but you don't really need S-Video options, it sends through the S-Video exactly what it sends through the normal monitor connection, so anything you change there will chage on the TV.

Oh. So I guess the reason it never worked is because I used that 14" TV-Set, instead of the main TV. But, the main TV uses the VCR for TV/AV, because the TV itself is 10+ years old. So should I plug it into the VCR instead of the SCART on the TV?

Hmmmm.. Well, it should work on any TV that has Scart input. Plugging into the Video should work, but make sure that it's Scart In, not Out. Made that mistake myself ;)

Are you sure S-VIDEO is automatically enabled? So I don't need my monitor to start up? I've downloaded TVTOOL which should help in case it doesn't work straight off...

S-Video is usually automatic... You could probably go from S-Video out on the card to any S-Video in on something else... However, whatever you plug the coable into for the final destination usually has to be turned on AND looking for a signal from the s-video when you turn on the computer, so that the card detects it as being live...

Okay, here's how it works. The S-Video is seen by the computer as an additional monitor. The problem arises in that it tries to display the output at computer sizes and frequencies, a television(especially a 10 year old one) ain't gonna display 640x480 good and you can hang up trying for anything higher. Remember, TV is 300x400 at best.

There are various divisions within the NTSC standard which determine what pixel and frame aspect ratios are used. These formats are as follows:

· NTSC (resolution 648 x 486 - preferred format)
· D-1 NTSC (resolution 720 x 486)
· D-1 NTSC Square Pix (resolution 720 x 540)

PAL
· PAL (resolution 720 x 486)
· D-1 PAL (resolution 720 x 576)
· D-1 PAL Square Pix (resolution 768 x 576)
