I've just got a new computer and Freespace 2 refuses to work!! I can install it but when you click on the desktop icon the screen goes black and I have to Alt-Tab out and also there is no error message.

I have:

P4 2.25 GHz
512 MB of RAM
Ti 4600 GeForce 4
Windows XP

Does anyone know what I can do??
This about the only Freespace 2 forum still active I can find. This game is fantastic and I really want to play it.

i don't have a clue, but these guys will.

edit: i forgot, HLP is also home of a large amount of MODs, and also the home of the SCP, editing the source code.

The only things I can suggest is (a) Video Card problem, make sure you have the latest drivers for downward compatibility, and (b) go to the FS2.EXE file, right clikc on it and select properties, go to compatability and run it in Windows 98 Compatability Layer
