damn... oh well. ill have to live.

back on topic, though-

erk, my brother is yelling at me. ill finish this post in a few minutes, that is, if no-one posts, in which case, ill just post again

[edit] ok! here i am to finish this post. which of these campaings are conversions, and which are just add-ons (MOD-wise)? i dont want to replace ANY ships or weapons. i dont want to lose anything from the REAL FS2.
i was just thinking, couldnt i just, like, copy out any files related to ships/weapons that were replaced ,and then ust put them back in later? it would be like MODding in the ships/weapons from FS2 back in after they got replaced. i hope that made sence...

You can always return to normal FS2 (sometimes called vanilla FS), by deleting any data in the /freespace/data folders. Your VP files containg the original FS, and the files in the data stuff are for MODs. Most mods come in VP's themselves, in this case you just remove or change the extension of the VP. The SCP makes this easier by allowing the -mod option, making different data dirs for all the mods, and allowing you to switch with -mod command line.

If you're using FS2_Open Kasperl gives some great advice. With the mod switch you can instal as many mods as you like and go back to FS2 standard with a click of a button

If you're using FS2 Retail have a look at this

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/ ... ories.html

for a way to do something similar. Using that method even before FS2_open I was able to install as many mods as I liked but swap back to standard FS2 after about 5-30 seconds of moving files :)

ok. well, i looked at the babalyon project (black wolf, pleez remember to indicate which abbreviations ouy are using :) it took me a while to figure out that TBP = the babylon project.)

anyways, i looked at bablyon, and there are only 3 ships that were any good at all (they all were good models, just i dont like the rest personally) so im not going to dl that one. inferno interests me. HOWEVER, can someone point me towards a website for it that actually tells you about it? like, new ships/weapons, and the story? i dont like getting stuff i know nothing about. the others lok awsome. im gonna get COW and this other one i found that has some cool stuff (dont remember which one it was, though... :? ). but first , i have to finish upgrading the other compy. then i can put all the stuff back in. (were gona like, re-install EVERYTHING and delete everything else. if that makes sence... )

sorry for doubling, but:
kasperl wrote: NOTE: Derelict is an exe, an installer. If you have the HOTU version, or some semi-legal version of FS, you might run into issues. Search on HLP for posts by Karajorma regarding Derelict. He put up the vp file ages ago, and it might still be on his server.

Warzone is good.
Homesick is nice too, but I haven't found the time to play all through it.

Also, make sure you download the SCP. For one, it makes MOD switching easier, and then their are the absolutely fabulous graphics.
SCP? whats that?

and also, i dont know what version i have. whats HOTU? i got my copy of freespace 2 on E-bay. :|

and could someone say which campaigns are MODs and which arent? im just wondering. (not including conversion, cuz im gonna leave those alone for now... )

SCP = Source Code Project. The Project that resulted in FS2_Open an enhanced version of the FS2 Engine. I'd give you a link but all the important info is up on the HLP Wiki and therefor inaccessable.

HOTU = Home of the Underdogs. A while back FS2 was considered abandonware since it was so hard to find so it was put up on the HOTU site for free download. The version they put up was greatly cut down but it was possible to convert it into a full FS2 install but even then you could have a few small problems installing campaigns like Deralicit which expected the legal version.

Interplay later re-released FS2 and the HOTU version was taken down to avoid any danger of legal action from Interplay.

If you follow my advice in the FAQ or use FS2_Open it doesn't really matter. Inferno is a total conversion but is set in the FS2 universe (all the ships are new but the storyline continues the one from FS2. TBP is the only other finished (or at least playable) TC. Everything else is a mod. Although I really don't know why you care about the difference.

As for inferno there's nothing much up on their website but you can find the downloads here http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/inferno/

HIG, do us all a favour, and don't mirror builds without telling the rest of us. There are some issues in 3.6, and we need people to dl it through the HLP site so we can point them to the wiki. Someone who doesn't have teh amnual will have a major problem with those builds. Please, only mirror the installer, not the Launcher and exe.
