I really like the S13 Silvia. Would rather have one but you just don't see them in the UK (full drift prep'd £10,000 cars aside).

Have decided to pay off my debts so won't have a car for around 6 months but I will be debt free at the end of the month. Huzzah!

Quick look on wiki and other sites seems to indicate that in the 70's, there were Opels in the US, but they were sold trough Buick, and in limited quantities... the ones you posted dont have any mention of being sold int he US... so Im thinking 78/79 might have been the newest Opel Manta ever seen on US shores.
Apparently we got a Chevy Cavalier instead. ooh boy what a great car [/sar casm]

edit:

The Kadett "B" (a small saloon)was marketed by Buick.
The more interesting models were the GT (most of these went to America)from 1968 to '73:

Opel recently launched a new GT, being sold as the Saturn Sky in the US.
The Manta "A" between 1971-75

(unoffically a response to the Ford Capri Mk1 in Europe)
and the Ascona, the Manta's saloon cousin. This was simply marketed as "1900".

None of the post 75, B series cars made it across offically, although there are personal imports. First there's the Manta "B" avaliable in either 2 door coupe or 3door fastback/hatchback form. At this point the Manta had essentially become a coupe version of the Cavalier and was nolonger a stand-alone model. Confusingly, Opels were marketed in the UK alongside existing Vauxhalls but had a "sportier" image.

as per the industy later models recieved rubber bumpers when chrome/alloy bumpers were abandoned.

The B recieved a facelift circa 1984, sometimes incorrectly refered to as the "C"

These are the models I like as I remember one near my house that I was fascinated with (I use to go out looking for it).

Some of the small slaloons/hatchbacks were markedted as "Opel by Isuzu" by Buick dealers between 1975-78. not too great, apparantly, though they are linked with thre Isuzu Piazza which is a great donar car being 2.0 turbo.

There have been some badge engineered cars in America (early 90s Pontiac Lemans and Cadlliac Catera were the Opel Kadette "E" and Opel Omega "B" respectivly).

When the Rear Wheel Drive B series Cavaliers were replaced by front wheel drive versions in 1981 they were based on GM's world J-platform so Chevy Cavaliers shared the same underpinnings with Euro equivilants. The Manta was "replaced" by the Cavalier based Calibra in 1990ish.

Finally, we now have Saturn selling renamed Opel models (including the Astra and Sky) and is apparantly to become Opel(US) pretty soon now.

Phew! think that covers most of it![/img]

Nothing much happening other me saving as much pay as possible.

However I now fancy a bike for commuting, though it means pissing around getting a bike licence and right now I really can't be arsed going through all that.

Well I took a peep at this today. After actually seeing it I've basically decided I don't fancy something this early (1979).

Pretty good idea what I fancy but it's a case of finding a nice one.
