Choice words from The Sun

On Rule of Rose (a game I've never heard of, I should add, but has been getting plenty of colum inches:
It's "16" age certificate is part ofa feeble voluntary code with no legal foce in the uk...
and highlighted later on
Extreme violence is a sick way to entertain kids

I guess the fact a 16 cert obviously indicates it isn't suitable for the bay-bees has escaped them....

They also linked the games industry to Columbine and a German school incident, just to really ram the point.[/i]

What's particularly abhorrent is that the 16 certificate (play.com actually lists it as 18+) is voluntary in that it's voluntary to have it certified - i.e. the publisher acted responsibly in creating that age barrier - and that the f#####g Sun likes to ignore the concept of parental responsibility.

Technically, you could say alcohol is simialrly 'abhorrent' because it's '18 rated' but kids could still obtain it from their parents....

Not only that, but iirc, the BBFC which is enforced by law, rated it at 18, so if kids get their hands on it, the responsible party is either going to be the person selling it, or the parent for being stupid enough to buy little Timmy and 18 cert game. Certainly not the producer of the game.

But as usual the 'Computer Games are for Kids!1!1' ethos breaks through, despite vast quantities of evidence to the opposite.
