What kind of job are you aiming at when you finish uni?

I've been studying IT for nearly 3 years now, still not entirely sure what I want to do. Probably something in the government with software design, or graphics design or something.

I can never make my mind up... o.o

Well, that's up in the air. In an ideal world, I'd work as a palaeontologist, digging up dinosaurs or ancient mammals (I'd prefer dinosaurs, but the mammalian record is orders of magnitude better than the dino record in Australia). But as an academic, you're making starvation wages, and with an applied geology degree and a massive mining boom in WA, I can be making around $100 000 a year doing fly-in, fly-out work at a minesite up north somewhere within a relatively short amount of time (average first year out of uni salary is apparently between 50 and 60 grand per year, and it goes up pretty quick once you get industry experience), so the choice is basically down to looking for a very unlikely, low paying job, but one where I'd be doing enjoyable, pure science, or finding a far more common job, on better money, but ultimately not doing anything particularly fulfilling...

I'd go for the enjoyable job, myself.

Yeah a mate of mine is doing geology engineering or something some such. He actually managed to score a scholorship with the government so they pay for his course and even pay him a living allowance while he's studying. Then afterwards he'll be working in some of the mines up in North QLD most likely. He could end up anywhere really.

At least it would pay really well.

I'd go for the enjoyable one too. It's much more important than you think to do something more forfulling.
