Motherfuckers. I was googling Freespace (I do that sometimes, just to see if there's anything interesting out there) and I come across an article on the history of space sims on http://www.viaarena.com. They speak pretty highly of FS2, so I figure that I'll jump onto their forums and pimp FSO a bit. So I register, go to post a new topic, and it wants me to install some ActiveX controls for posting.
Now, normally, I know, this can be risky. But I figure these guys aren't some dodgy free porn or warez site, so in all likelyhood, they just want things to look pretty. So I click OK and start DLing. So it downloads and then, bang. Windows XP decides it's not safe to DL it an drefuses to install it on my comp. First they give me the whole "We strongly reccomend against installing this" when the website tries to install it automatically (fair enough I suppose), but then it goes and destroys any illusion of choice on my part by basically saying "We gave you the choice. But you chose wrong and we chose right. We decide what you can and can't do on your computer." Fuckers. If it's unsafe, fine. I'll suffer the consequences. But at least let me choose to suffer those consequences myself.
Assholes.
