I just got an honest to god 24 bit sound card. It's amazing, my computer actually seems to be running faster.

I loaded Renegade and the textures seems sharper somehow and my FPS was up considerably(from 20s to high 40s) it almost seems impossible.

Raa's right, it probably freed up system resources on the motherboard that were being dedicated to the onboard sound. A new, dedicated sound card would free up those resources and function more efficiently, allowing a greater freedom of access to the motherboard's resources for the remaining devices.

I've been using a 24 Bit soundcard for quite a while, it's the only way I can hope to do my music stuff, I'm going to be upgrading to a 32Bit 96,000 Khz card in the next month or two :)

Yes, the difference is pretty amazing, which soundcard did you get?

Soundblaster Live! 24-bit.

It didn't fix the problem I bought it to fix, but I am pleased enough to not be depressed enough to be upset with myself.

Those are incredibly hard to find, Raa. I looked for 3 months both locally and online trying to find one.
