In case you're wondering it's Captain Gundam from SD Gundam Force.

It's SD, kinda chibi styled gundams. It's really a kids show, except that it satirizes the other Gundam series. I wanted to do a sequence from a little before that, but there was no way I could get the GIF small enough.

Considering that I've never watched the show, I'm a little scared that I had any idea what that thing is...

It's kinda distracting, Lib.

Gundam Wing was a show full of girly twats who did nothing but prattle. There's a reason that 3/4 of the characters are put into Yaoi Hentai...

It would be fine if that was all there was, but there is so much better that is Gundam, I like Turn A, G, and SEED leaves Wing the dust.

I only watched 0083 because a frined let me borrow her tapes. They were subtitled, of course. Good show, twas. Never watched any of the rest though. Too... spin-off-y

"Quick" rundown then:

TOG, 08th MS team, 0080, 0083, Zeta Double Zeta and Char's Counterattack and a couple of others that I haven't seen all take place during a time an unrevealed number of years in the future, called the Universal Century.

A Dr. Minovsky discovered a new form of fusion that is incredibly stable, self-sustaining and sizable, opening the way to the stars because ship can be built to almost any size and shape because power is no longer a problem. It also gives off a previously undiscovered particle field that blocks almost all wavelengths of radiation thus shielding itself. These particles also negate most of military technology that relies on stuff like Radar and makes most of today's "pushbutton" warfare obsolete. Combat must take place in visual range which is why you never see massive fleet duking it out from 3000 miles apart. That's where mobile suits come in, their humanoid frame makes them very versatile and they can engage at all ranges.

Turn A probably takes place in this continuity as well since there are Zaku and a Gallop, only it's 2000+ years after that violent era. A gundam was built by an unknown party(most likely remnants of the old Earth Federation or the Duchy of Zeon) that had the horrifying ability to destroy technology on a monumental scale with an attack called the Moonlight Butterfly. At some point, this attack was used and all of Earth was wiped clean of technology. 2000 years later humanity has climbed back up to a early 1900s level of tech when The Moonrace returns, they have Mobile Suits and High Technology, and things progress from there. I personally think that Turn A is the most mature of the Gundams, it handles it's themes very maturely and while it does have battle, it's rare at the beginning.

The other Gundams Wing, G, SEED, ect. take place in their own self-contained universes.

Wing is "Gundam for Girls" with lots of pretty boys and an extremely simplistic view on "True Pascifism"

G Gundam == DBZ with the fighters being giant robots

SEED is a retelling of the original's story with better writing, characters and effects.

SD Gundam, in all it's incarnations, is a parody/satire of the other Gundam series. usually giving the "suits" a wild, over-the-top personality that ties into it's design somehow. It's almost always funny, but not so much that it takes away from the other shows.

No wonder why that one comic book store I once visited had about a thousand models from these series...there are about 100 series! :P
