Why? Are you Derek Smart's brotheror something? Or do you intend to make it yourself? Either way, I won't accept anything that isn't made by V's original staff. But that's just me.

The reason I am hostile towards this idea is it's like beating a dead horse with a cov't plasma sword. It doesn't do anyone any good. Certainly not the horse...

The reason I am cautiously against FS3, is because I am concerned it wouldn't live up to FS1/2, on many levels. I'd be concerned that someone (like DS) would decide to take FS in entirely different levels, breaking all accepted accepted plot protocls, like introducing time travel or something. What I would be more concerned with however, would be if whatever new platform chosen to run the game, might not be as MODable as the current. Even discounting the released FS2 source code and FSO, FS2_retail is highly MODable, as campaigns such as Inferno have shown. My concern would be, for example, that a proprietary model & file format would be used, with nothing carried over from FS2, and no converters and editors released to manipulate them. And FRED... without FRED, FS2 would have an extremely low replayability level. If the hypothetical FS3 comes without any FRED equivalent, then its pretty much beyond our ability to MOD.

It is for these reasons, that I am content to have FSO, and possibly Ferrium if it ever gets finished.

Ok... I'll lisen to the idea. And Raa I can't help that you don't care about it, but if this was the same way the people who made the Source code thought than we wouldn't be moding today. Look at Twisted Inf. they have created an atmospere for freespace2! I would have never thought that was possible. Hi idea may or may not work, but we at least have to lisen.

not saying too much yet, but D.S. wont b a part of it. ive been tryin to find out if (V) or any of the original writers for that matter, still have the rights to it. if they do, i might just be able to do sumthing. i dont want to start rumors, and its only a maybe. what i do know is that i need LOTS of interest. hence wanting some response to this thread, which ive got, but not exactly the type id wanted :(.

Just something you will have to go thru. Seams like they won't warm up to the idea right now but they may in time. :) If you can find what you said that would really renew the chances of getting attention.

WeatherOp wrote:Why are you guys getting so mad? Its not like FS3 was droped after they started it. It just never happened. And also I am not a noob. And in my last post I was talking about Aircraft simulations and war games. And also there will allways be people as long as this site stands that will talk about FS3 and there is no way anyone can stop em.
I was just being sarcastic in that last line.I thought that would have come through.

The rest is fairly true though. W've heard about FS3 so often that it's annoying when someone dredges it up again in a topic like this (hell this exact same topic has been done several time).

As I said it's like continually reminding someone of a lost one. Very tactless and yet pointless at the same time. We've tried petitions, We've tried contacting [V] there's very little else we can do to make it happen. So now we're just ignoring FS3 unless it does actually happen.

No one can stop you talking about FS3 (well the mods can I suppose :D ) but you should realise that doing so won't make you very popular in these circles for the reasons I stated.

You've made a statement. Now prove it. How do you know that previous petitions and contacts have gone to the wrong people?

no! it doesnt matter what we think of this subject, we cant just forget about it and hope it disapears. it wont. ever. end of story. its painful for most people, yes, but if we rant about it long enough, that 0.000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance may come true. its not impossible.

42
unfortunately that means there is no hope of FS3 been made by the original team. what ive found out is that there is some companies that dont wont FS3, cos there wouldnt be enough interest. otherwise they would do it. submit an fs3 request to just bout any games company, and all u get is something along the lines of
"space simulation programs are not popular enough for [whateva company it is] to undertake such a project. maybe your idea will be considered at a later date, when the market for the space simulation genre is more agreeable, thankyou for taking an interest in our company.

Would you please try paying attention? Maybe clean the earwax out and open your eyes a little.

[V] cares but they don't own the license right now. They're willing to do the game, but Interplay had the liscence to FreeSpace. V responded. They just can't do anything at the moment.

Second, we're well aware the sales were bad, we don't need reminding. Part of the problem was bad advertising, and another is a general downtrend for that type of game.

finally someone is more informed than my cheap-ass sources! question for moonsword; did the rights die with interplay or is there anyhope of a better equiped, richererer company obtaining the rights if they were 'motivated'

freespace2pilot, what I just said is mostly what Karajorma posted above. I was repeated so that you would see it.

I personally don't know what the status of the rights is. For all I know, Derek Smart could be coding the next edition in his bathrobe as I type this... I just don't know. And for that last possibility, God, I hope not.
