freespace2pilot: nah, this ship doesnt really do anything. in fact, you may never actualy see it, except in cutscenes and CBanims. and actually, its probably going to be more along the lines of 4km long, a much more reasonable size. plus, this ship was designed to replace earth. well, it originally wasnt, but they changed it after we lost sol. and if you ever even see it, it WILL be only as much as teh aquitane.
flipside: i dont mind if you close me topics, dont worry.
oh, and my ships like, go to an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM of 8km, ever. period. anything bigger than that, unless there is a damn good reason why its that big, is out of the question.

I suppose at some point, you have to accept that this is a game first and foremost.
Take, for example, cruisers in the US Navy, they have entire banks of AA batteries and missiles. Frankly, any Bomber trying to put a 50Lb bomb through the deck may as well take it's chances with a cheese-grater. The same goes for many larger incoming missiles, as long as the system is looking for them. And remember, Navy ships are a lot smaller than Freespace ones
If we carried on that assumption, then 'real' Freespace 2 attacks would be launched from beyond visual range and involve long range missiles. Bombers could do the same job but would still launch from about 20-30kms away.
Combat in Freespace 2 is not realistic, I certainly hope we've got something more dangerous than the 'slow yellow blob of doom' otherwise known as the Terran Turret when we get to that stage of things
