Me seeming absent minded

1
For those of you that care, I might seem a bit odd or irrational the next few days. My Dutch teacher suddenly died on saturday. The man was 51, very kind, very soft, very nice. He had a 11 year old daughter just to make matters worse. He died of a bleeding in the brain. I can't say I knew the man well, but still, it does feel odd. If I act wierd, just put me on ignore for the time being.

My condolences to you, kasperl. Don't worry about it, take whatever time you need to sort this out for yourself.

Err, Petrarch got that one right.

The problem right now is that the guy was both the most boring teacher in school, and I quite dreaded is classes, but still, he was very kind, very easygoing on everyone. The fact that most of the students in school simply register it has "ooh, friday's off for the funeral, let's go parteh!!!!" and "Ooh, goody, no more boring classes" doesn't make it easier. Some of the teachers are ignoring it too, which suprises me a lot more. I nearly freaked out at my math teacher for being an insensitive b#stard today. The guy never even mentioned the death, instead he bitched at us for being a tadd late, while we had to walk through the entire friggin building to get there. But that math teacher is a terrible man anyway.

The teacher who died was teaching in our school for the last 25 years, so quite a few teachers are pretty upset. Some cried infront of the class, I heard. My PE teacher simply gave a short summary, and went on with the class. A good way to get things of your mind, but to see people compare the foto's taken on the foreign trips (week before the last, last week was vacation), and completely ignoring the situation, does kind of annoy me. I'm not exceptionally shocked, because the guy was looking very fragile anyway. But him being so young, and the fact that he had a daughter that age did suprise me. All in all, there are worse ways to go, and he didn't drop dead infront of the class. (Good thing, that.)

A lot of shocked faces, but the amount of teachers and students completely ignoring him seems very odd.

BTW, in case someone is interested in a picture: www.lcl.nl The front page is an in memoriam. The text reads:

We are shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing away of our teacher and colleauge

Gerard Jan de Luij

He was an infinatly patient Dutch teacher who tried to transfer is love for the language without tyring, but above all a kind, aiding en interested man with a warm hart for our school.

The translation might be a tadd off, but you get the gist.

Writing this off is a good thing for me, no reason to read these posts, though if you feel like it, I'm not offended by replies. I might post some more later.
