Personally, I think the kidnappers have slipped up in this case, hence their fear to show or identify themselves.

They have kidnapped an Iraqi, with an Iraqi husband who has only ever worked for the good of the Iraqi people, and the Iraqi people are aware of this.

Personally, I really hope this backfires right in the bastards faces.

The mood I'm in at the moment, do you know what I'd do if we had the resources?

I'd say 'For every day that you hold an innocent woman's life hostage, we will add another 500 troops to the total going to Baghdad. If you kill her, we will add every spare man in the army. You choose.'

No, no. You surround the city, give them 48 hours to turn over the terrorists(every last one of them) or you're going to raze the city to from 48,000 feet with enough high explosives to level Mt. Ararat.

LOL It's tempting, but that would make us no better than them, using innocent lives as bargaining tools :(

You honestly think they wouldn't turn th bastards in?

Something more effective would be to evacuate the city before hand and force everyone too go through the cordon.

Or cut the power, water & telephone service and allow only the hospital patients top be evac'd. And make sure that they understand that it wouldn't be turned back on until the terrorists are turned in.

You think it wouldn't turn every moderate Iraqi against the coalition? Even if it worked, you'd have a thousand new terrorists in Iraq the next day, and hundreds of thousands across the world.

Look at the outrage over Falluja, after all.....

EDIT' oh yeah, and how would you know - if it worked - the terrorists were terrorists, and that they were all the terrorists? How do you know people wouldn't turn on their neighbours, using long held grudges or whatnot to arrange for them to spend a few decades in camp X-ray?

Yeah... I'm with Flipside. Let the people figure that this time, the terrorists have finally crossed the line.

The only real workable alternative is to bring in 50000+ more troops and do a block by block search, with each block being held and patrolled by 20 soldiers minimum at all times until the buggers doing the beheading are caught and done away with.

As the Reagan Doctrine proscribes, "We do not negotiate with terrorists".

Which won't happen, at least, not without a very different domestic situation. We'd have a repeat of Vietnam and the politicians responsible would be tossed out of office at the earliest available opportunity.
