What do you mean by "more dynamic"?
You can do some things with variables that are insanely hard (or even impossible) to do with sexps.

I meant in retail too.
We're designing Silent Threat: Reborn as a retail campaign, but there is at least one mission in there (possibly two) that would have been impossible to make without variables.

Nah, we took a look at each mission and cleaned them all up. Many were completely redesigned. No mission was left untouched.

The variable name should be only one word, or multiple words separated by hyphens. It can't contain spaces.Grimloq wrote:i like variables, but htey always crash on me...
In Silent Threat, presumably. I haven't verified it, though.Raa wrote:There's a mission with only one event in it?

That's the voice of inexperience there cob. Seriously - this is one argument it's impossible to win. Variables are simply more versatile, and, once you know what you're doing, just as reliable. There's no two ways about it.Hippo wrote:Yeah, they're indeed simple, i just usually prefer to use sexp's, since if they're done correctly, they can be more dynamic (albeit really hard to debug)...

thanks for the points all.....
I still think FRED wants to kill me.
I fixed teh problem - its running all fine and stuff; but then the damn thing happens ##@$()*@$&)#@$#@$ AGAIN!!!!!!
I managed to trace it down to the arrival of Libra wing; but there are no events associated with it - just the arrival of one wing and another ship. Yet FS2 just really #$234 WANTS to crash on its arrival; hell, it crashes even BEFORE it arrives, just when it's supposed to (i.e. 17 seconds after the previous wing is destroyed) I have no clue as to why it wants to do this either!
Grrrrr! Stupid FS2/FRED!
*tries to export missiong to retail FRED. realizes he cannot cause its BoE.......
