If you could add one ship to canon

What would it be? I mean ship classes, rather than specific mods people have done - there're way to many of those that probably deserve to be canon to list them all.

As for myself, I actually have several I'd like to see, mainly for FREDding purposes - I've often wanted a very specific ship class but never been able to find one - My top three would be a light GTVA installation, a light Terran carrier, between Corvette and destroyer in size, and a Large Vasudan transport, pretty much in that order.

They'd all be useful, but a light installation'd open up a few more stories I think - It'd be useful as a civvy base, or as a research centre, or a frontier station, etc. etc. A light carrier'd be cool as a sort of stepping stone in opposing forces - something that's a challenge, but not quite destroyer level, but the installation wins because ultimately it'd be a little more versatile IMO.

I think a light carrier (between cruiser and corvette in size, on the high end of that) with little armament would be nice.

More civilian ships and installations.

More installations (including civilian ones), A frigate class (between corvette and destroyer size) a similarly sized light carrier. More civilian ships in general and of course, mega-freighters :D

freespace could use Battleships/Battlecruisers (halfway point between a destroyer and a jugg, the maybe about 3-4k long. the largest ships that are practical to build)
colony ships,
MORE CRUISERS (i like cruisers, not nearly enough of them)
more installations, a LOT more (even stuff like border posts, that are hardly bigger than a cruiser)
carriers (not them bloody things they have in inferno, i mean)
kinetic weapons (think HW mass drivers)
command ships (size of a destroyer, lightly armed, serves as a small mobile installation)
REAL planet-killers (better than that visnaak thingey they have in inferno)
an (more) official superdestroyer class
some shivan instalations, like this one idea i had... *thinks*
piloting ability for capital shisp would be SOO cool, but it is sorta dumb :razz:
MINING BASES!!! (i worked out how to make mining ships be able to dock and harvest asteroids, too :) at a mining base)
ion frigates like HW to add a whole new bag o' spice to the game
LOTS more civillain ships :)

as for souce changes, wouldnt it be cool to have the ability to make smoke? i mean, in the pof, not scriopted :razz: and recoiling turrets :)

anywayz, thats what i think FS2 needs, even though i didnt exactly limit it to ships :oops:

yeah, carriers are what it really lacked... Though, in FS2 its less obvious, since they had intersystem rives for fighters, but in FS1, they had to work around it...

the orions, typhons, hatshestupts, and hecates were technically carrier-destroyers, and FS2 had a much more practical approach to carriers. i mean, if you had to fight a war, wouldnt you want to merge your destroyers and carriers to save resources? :)

No, at least not completely. Your destroyers and other front-line starships are in the line of fire... if they go up your fighters are stranded.

Some carriers that aren't supposed to be on the front lines probably do exist.

no, not completely. you NEED specialized ships, but to give your destroyers carrying capacity is a good idea. i mean, if yo ucould do that in HW2, you could wreak havoc!

Yes, but a destroyer is far less effective in HW2 anyway :)

A Carrier would probably be slightly smaller than a destroyer class ship is now, but with less armour and weapons, there'd be a lot more space for fighters. In fact, all a carrier would need is anti-fighter defences, when you carry 15-20 wings of Bombers, capital ship sized problems have a way of being dealt with ;)
