Well, I've been playing this oldie but goodie a bit over the last few weeks, and I've just found out that the 1.7 patch came with Bump Mapping support for the Matrox G400. Oddly enough, it appears that the GeForce FX5600 also supports this feature :-

1998 originally I think, really innovative game in it's own right. Rather than build bases and buildings etc, you dig out the Earth around you to whatever size you wanted and built 'rooms' once you'd claimed the empty ground that was revealed You claimed Portals, which your evil minions entered your dungeon through. Resources were Gold (those yellow blocks in the picture) and Mana, which generated faster the more ground your imps (workers) had claimed. Certain creatures had certain skills, Trolls work in workshops, Warlocks reserach in Libraries etc, and had personalities as well, Bile Demons were incredibly greedy, Dark Angels were stroppy if you slapped them with your hand of evil (one of my favourite parts) etc.....

No MOD support whatsoever though, that's why it dies out and FS is still with us..... says a lot that.

Must admit, if there was a game that would inspire me to go further than modding and learn C++ to write my own version of, this would be it though, with full Mod support LOL A game like this would be awesome with the capabilities of Graphics Cards these days

DK1 was hard getting work in XP but i did get it working

those games are lots fun

DK2 was bloody genius.

You could smite an enemy with lightning 'till he was out, have an Imp carry him to a prison, then you could shoose to let him rot to a skeleton warrior, let him be tortured by Mistresses and turn him against his friends, or kill him off and throw him in a graveyard to become a Vamp. Lovely.
