Jedi in a Day

I just watched Empire Strikes Back the other day, and something struck me - Luke goes off to find yoda at the same time Han and Leia and the rest get off Hoth. Now, Luke goes straight to Dagobah, wheras the Falcon messes about a bit first, in the asteroid field, playing with the Star Destroyers etc. At most, they're there a day before they head off to Cloud City. They stay in cloud city, in all likelyhood, no longer than a few days. I can't see Vader waiting very long to capture them, especially since "They arrived right before you did" (You = Han and Leia). Within no more than a day or so after that, Luke shows up at Cloud City. He is, to all intents and purposes, a fully trained Jedi. Sore, he spends a year or so researching, alone, between ESB and RotJ, but he was capable of Taking on Vader at cloud City. Sure, he got beaten, but he didn;t do too badly. He could also do the uberjump out of the carbonite chamber, call to leia, stuff like that. Now, based on the timeline, even assuming travelling time is neglible, his total contact time with Yoda was no longer than a week, and that's being generous. He learned to manipulate the force that binds the universe together in a week. It took Anakin something like 10 years, and he turned to the Dark Sdie anyway.

No point really. Just thout it was kinda funny :D

ESB > ROTJ only a few months, IIRC. You should read Shadows of the Empire. :)

Anyway, I guess he just needed Yoda to turn on his powers for him... meh.

Hmmmmmmmmm... Well, Han and Leia may have been hiding out in the Asteroid field for a couple of days doing repairs on the Millenium before heading to Cloud City. But yes, Luke must have been pretty much a N00b when he went to face Darth

Hyperspace transit probably adds a day or so to that, though that most likely counts against both of them. They could have spent longer in the belt than you're allowing for, however.

Vader didn't really go all out on Luke. Remember, Luke was his son. Vader obviously knew that. And besides, Vader wasn't trying to kill Luke, he was trying to bring him to the Dark Side. So Luke probably sucked a whole lot more than he appeared to.

On the note of bringing Luke to the Dark Side, maybe Vader was going to follow Sith tradition by challenging Palpatine, and take Luke on as his apprentice :)

Hmmm... This is true, I'm sure I recall a line in that movie that went something like....

'Sir, we've been searching this asteroid field for three days, they must have been destroyed by now.', though I could be imagining it, it is terribly early in the morning here ;)

Even if we add a few days for travel, a few more days in the asteroid field etc. etc. we're still talking about an apprenticeship of well over a decade being compressed into a week or two. ;)

Sort of like Summer School.

*nods*

You can supposedly compress Jedi training, but that's a lot. Remeber, Yoda warned him that he wasn't ready.
