Problem sending PMs

Are messages meant to be stuck in my outbox?

That's normal. There is an error in sending PMs, but they still fire just fine from what I can see.

So does it go to the outbox first and then to sent?
I just read 2 posts over at the phpBB community forums,
...and I just don't know why it can't use the same context as an email system uses for it's outbox. I also came across this definition:

Well you're right, on a mail client the OUTBOX is usually for sent items. But on Phpbb and most forums, it's for YET TO BE SENT items.
