Singlehanded blade, single edge, pointed tip for stabbing. Harder to step inside. Easier to punch your opponent in the face with the off hand.

I do believe I'm looking for a gladius, essentially. Perhaps a bit longer than the classic version.

Need to brush up on my swords..

I'd prefer a pole-based weapon...

I tried to stick to "real" swords with this poll. ^_~ Otherwise I would have said this... or laser sword

Katana (sharpest sword in the world AFAIK and made 1000 years ago) or a light saber, made 1000 years from now.

Well, I wasn't referring to Star Wars. Just how long it might take for a sword like that to become real.
