Is there a way to get my laptop to talk to the hard-drive from my old desktop ? I'm pretty much a dumb-ass toward PCs nowadays but both are XP if that means anything.....?

Apparently it is possible to get an IDE - USB cable, which would make it simply a case of plug and play... if you take the hard drive out of the desktop, that is.

An alternative might be to install a server on the desktop (i.e. apache). I think it's also possible to directly connect 2 machines via cat5e cable, but not sure on how.

EDIT; er, what he said.

It's 40 squid, though, which means you can probably get it from a decent shop for half that (this was just the first google link I got for it)
