Don't know about Mibbit though, since I don't use it ( Opera has a built-in IRC client ).

Most people do, but you'd be surprised. In my experience, a lot of "first-time IRC'er" traffic comes in the form of easy-to-use applets.

The only problem is they often take a long time to load and throw up security and unsigned applet warnings, and spook people.

All the IRC client's I've used so far have barfed all over me at some point. 's why I don't really use the system.

Have been using Mirc for a decade myself - never had a single problem with it. Plenty of other aps out there, though.

Maybe you're just really bad at finding IRC clients.
