Hi I have been thinking about starting to learn to mod fs2 and was wondering if anyone could give me a list of the best program to use and some links to tutorials as tried googling but not found anything yet

What are you actually thinking of doing? You don't need any extra tools to make missions for instance where as tabling and ship design will require quite a few programs.

I was thinking about doing some ships to start with, then as I got better maybe progress doing a full mod if I feel that I can do to a good enough standard

"Starting out" with ships is a pretty big leap.

It is indeed. But if you really want to, most people here will recommend Blender and PCS2, and Photoshop or the GIMP if you wanna make textures. You can table your ship into the game with Notepad, and you can look how other mods did it with VPView (which is probably already in <yourFS2directory>\tools\VPView32\ )

First questions first, do you have any (3d) modelling, or 2D graphics (texture) experience?
