Trying To Compose Some Music

Ok, so while I've been developing Cerberus, I've been thinking about composing a music file or two, thought it might be worthwhile. I found certain sounds occuring in the background of a particular song I won't, but can't seem to find a way to grab them. Anyone know of any audio program that'll let me look at the individual sound layers of a song? If so, that would be great.
