I started my trial yesterday.
Word of advice, go brawn instead of brains.

Join the Sgam channel in game, most of us hang there during the day.
Also, whoever said brawn over brains is an idiot. With brains comes brawn.

Brains = Science and Research = Tech 2 equipment.
Tech 2 equipment = much cash.
Much Cash = Named items
Named Items = Brawn

Pure brains = high mining / research
Pure brains = level one ships
-
Level one ships = ass-kickery by the NPCs
-
Ass-kickery by the NPCs = unhappy player
I suppose that it's possible that the ass-kickery happens no matter what. It just doesn't seem likely, though.

I can't seem to find the Sgam channel. Do you have to create it every time, or something?

The thing about Eve is Time more than skills, once upon a time I struggled to tank a Lvl 4 in an Apoc, nowadays, I can sit in the middle of a shitstorm and armour rep.
Being skilled at research etc doesn't always limit your combat abilities, I can fly pretty much any Amarr ship smaller than a Capship, including Tech 2's, but I can also do a pretty mean bit of mining in a Hulk.
It really depends on how much time you've spent training the skills needed.

EVE is like real life, you learn as you go, and you acquire both skills and knowledge both in the game and in your mind.

The button is called "create/join" for a reason.

I may down download this once I'm done with Crysis Multiplayer, and complete C&C 3 GDI campaign and Kanes' Wrath.
