I've been getting spam phone calls lately.

Either I get left a message or the phone rings, I answer it and I get an engaged signal.

Dunno what the deal with that is!

It's an automated line test. A computer dials your number (randomly generated or from a purchased list) to see if anyone answers. If no one picks up, its probably not worth calling again.

However if you pick up they know that the number is used and can make an attempt at telesales later on with a number they know isn't useless ;)

So should you try making noises like a fax machine in the hope they won't ring again? :D

The message is always the engaged tone.

Or I pick up and it hangs up on me.

Its just wierd that it happend about 6 times in the space of 3 days. Hasn't happened again since though.
