Driving Insanity

Well, its 8:35 PM on a monday night. Since i'm in Driver's Ed, i was out with my mother for a practice drive on the freeway. Everything was normal, we took the onramp on to the freeway, prepared to get off on an exit... and then everything went insane.

First off, i had to slow down to nearly 5 miles an hour while on an exit lane to avoid dunking the car into a gigantic puddle. After that puddle, however, there was another puddle on the left i hadn't seen and accidentally splashed through. When we had left the house, it hadn't been raining. At this point, it was nearly downpouring.

After getting by the puddle and nearly on to the exit offramp, i had to stop because someone had turned on their hazard lights in the lane to my left, come to a dead stop on the exit lane of the freeway, backed through the gore area dividing the exit lane from the offramp, and was backing straight towards me on a freaking offramp. Is that all? Oh, no no no no, now the fun really starts!

It started to hail. And i don't mean just hail, i mean it was that annoying soft hail that instantly turned into slush when it hit the road. Within 10 seconds the roads were white, and i was creeping along at 3 MPH to the intersection ahead of me. My mother was understandably concerned at this point, and after turning right on to the street, directed me to turn right at the next intersection.

I would have loved to turn right at that intersection, but as we pulled up to the light, we noticed that a huge puddle was covering the entire road. Ok, maybe we shouldn't turn right there. We eventually got into a parking lot and my mother took over and drove us home. We didn't get more then 1000 feet from the freeway when the roads were suddenly clear as day, and it looked as though it hadn't even rained. We didn't see another droplet of water the entire journey home.

Talk about Murphy's Law.

Nothing worse than learning to drive. One of those things you wish you can just do straight away.
