With such craptastic footage... Well, it certainly looks like that log thing from one of the StarTrek movies.

Amazing how they filmed these particular jets taking off....

That bliack line is a lot closer than it looks, look at how it bounces, and watch the clouds behind it, that's caused by perspective, the clouds, being a lot further away, move less apparent distance than a nearby object. I'd even go so far as to say that it was a bit of grit or a dead insect on the camera lens.

My favorite UFO chase was always the one the Swedes did, because they shot it down, and haven't had a reported UFO sighting since.

That's what they get for messing with the Swedes!

I'm with Flip here - it looks more like a poor post-production motion tracking job on some existing footage than anything else.

Heh, it reminds me - anyone remember the whole roswell crash site thing? From what I've seen of it, a farmer finds a few scraps of weird foil in his field and the media pull an Arnold J Rimmer: "It must be ALIENS!"

I dunno about other people, but at a supposed alien crash site I would want to see something that looks more like an epic plane wreck, complete with a cracked open hull spewing all kinds of fancy radiation, maybe the remnants of an FTL drive still trying to come back online and warping space-time in weird ways all over the place, burnt and mangled debris stretching for many km marking it's trajectory, and maybe some grey goo marking where individual aliens met either the ground or a ship bulkhead at like mach 12 or whatever.

Then I'd be happy to pull a Rimmer. :D

Still, I want a flying tube.

Columbia shot down by UFO? I don't remember seeing this (been on there for a year). Quite interesting but.. What to think about it? Seems implausible

Seems completely bat s### insanely ludicrous, more like.

That being said there sure is some interesting stuff out there, and Youtube has it all, from the absolute s### to the complete mysteries. I think it's fair to say that 99% of stuff is faked/mistaken. So what does that mean for the remaining 1%? Do you believe in aliens? For me, it's a definite YES, but I don't think they are interested in us. At all.

Wow - that's almost but not quite the whackiest alien & NASA cover up conspiracy theory I've seen. (The craziest being that NASA used one of the mars explorer robots to run over an alien rabbit on mars to cover up its existance)

I mean think about it - some kind of alien ship comes to earth and decides for whatever bizzare alien logic reason, to destroy columbia.
You can pick this one apart without even bothering to look at the engineering science behind it. ;)

So: They manage hit it in the wing with an "electromagnetic beam" of some kind which somehow "weakens the structure" at that point.

Space shuttles are not exactly the most robust forms of vehicle, you know, at all. For a weapon to simply weaken the structure to the point where it only later fails....well you're talking a weapon that has about as much damage potential as say, a large falling tile. Even Marvin the Martian has more firepower than that! For a space faring race, you're talking less than a pea shooter.

I think that particular theory would be more plausible if you look at it like the Shivan Trailer Park theory - the alien ship was trying to communicate with the shuttle using an upgraded form of our own radio waves, and so brought it down with an easy to understand 'Y HALLO THAR!' transmission. :p

Not to mention any alien intelligent enough to devise interstellar travel (excluding their inexplicable interest in Earth - unless they're scouting a route for a bypass or something) and wishing to covertly stop space exploration would be somewhat unlikely to do so on live TV.

I'm confident aliens have been here, will continue to come here, but have nothing to do here that will affect the average Joe in anyway for hundreds of years to come, if ever. Coverups, well there is never any way of being absolutely one-hundred percent certain of what is and isn't real - There is always going to be something that can't be explained away easily.

Also I love this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Axq9k9mE6-o

That face is fantastic in the final enhanced image. Whatever it is, it's cute.

If you take an entire planet-worth of rock piles, I'm certain you can find all kinds of interesting shapes under different lighting conditions. Just because clouds can occasionally form the shape of a rabbit doesn't mean there's a giant magical cyber bunny somewhere that's causing it. ;)

People like these tend to apply such a pathetically limited range of what they would consider to be 'natural' or 'explainable' causes to an unknown that if you lived by their logic just about anything and everything would be unexplainable in some way and probably the work of aliens.

Now I love sci-fi, but people pouncing on the slightest abnormality and declaring it to be the work of aliens is just stupid. That said, I do love the laughs they can bring. :D

You can't blame them, they just want to feel the excitement from the possibility there is something greater out there. I've never been too negative about these kind of things. Oh, and, well.. Rock formations aren't quite like clouds. The odds are highly stacked against you for rock formations to naturally form a face (assuming that IS how it looks) like that. If there was just an outline of a face, maybe you'd be 100% right that it's natural, but assuming those images are correct - The iris, eyebrow, etc.. Those are a little bit far fetched for natural rock formations. Not impossible but infinitely small odds. Clouds are a bit different. You could see hundreds of shapes in a single day in the clouds, but it'd take hundreds of thousands of years for your resident rocks to present themselves in the shape of an Easter bunny. Oh and last time I checked, seeing faces in the clouds of any detail is rare too.

I think if someone sent a probe down to that face it would help. If it's artificial, maybe there will be some signs of that.
