Serious for one moment - my mate needs advice

A mate of mine confided in me last night, looking for advice. I don't think I'm in any position to give it to him due to...complications, so I thought I'd open it up to you guys.

My chum has suspected for some time now that his other half has been cheating on him. The usual signs; phone rings, but if he answers, the caller hangs up. His other half has been "going out with the girls" a lot recently, although when he asks their names she always says, "just some friends from work, you don't know them."

He sometimes stays awake to look out for her cab coming home, but she always gets out of a car at the end of the street. There's usually 5 minutes before she comes walking up the drive, and as she does he hears the sound of a car leaving.

Last week, he picked up her mobile phone, just to see what time it was. This caused her to go completely berserk. She quickly snatched the phone out of his hand and cursed him hysterically, screaming that he should never touch her personal property and said that certain things should be private, then accused him of trying to spy on her.

Anyway, he have never broached the subject with her. I think deep down he just doesn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and he decided to really check on her. He decided he was going to park the car next to the garage and then hide behind it so he could get a good view of the street around the corner when she came home.

Midnight came, and he heard the car pulling up at the end of the street, so he nipped out the back door and crouched behind the car to get a good view of what was going on, and who was dropping his other half off.

And he couldn't believe what he saw.........

......a huge bloody scratch in rear side door of the car about 4 inches long and quite deep, down to the metal. Is this something he can easily repair himself or do you think he should take it to the garage?

Your honest opinions will be much appreciated.

Try a little pot of that paint stuff you can get from Halfords, job done.

Depends on what type of paint. Simple solid colour can be touched up quite easily with kits (Halfords do sell them) and a decent polish or T-Cut. Just make sure he gets a proper paint match. If it's metallic or a fancy flip/pearl affair that's much harder. Ask the techie Dude in Halfords. They're usually pretty handy.

Either way don't leave it too long as if it's down to the metal it'll rust in no time.

Halfords 'Touch Up' is good, though, as Roanoke says, metallic can be difficult. Sometimes, in a worst case, the car manufacturer will actually supply the paint if you ask them, but that can be almost as expensive as getting the job done professionally.
