When table editing I find it easiest to just take a ship of a similar class, copy it and edit the entry until it does what I want it to.
With the GTC Great Big Cube that basically means making sure the turret entried match and you should be aboue done.

ok i went through DMTOOLS VPview32, copied the table for the @GTC Fenris to word pad and am going to procede to butcher it. i can save it as a nameofthinghere.tbl file. what happens next. just plug the table into the data/tables, as the fenris and the cube POF to data/models as a "model swap" and call it done or do i have to unpack the VP file, tuck the modified table in and re compile it?
i've also heard of FS2 stock version having a limitation on table size and models loaded? if i wanted to plug 3-4 ships in would it fry the game as is? or am i going to have to bump this beast up to SCP? which i am probably going to do anyway.
and last question.
texturing
recomended program (free download)?
and if i want to use the original FS2 textures how to i yoink those out to tinker with?
i searched the forum and didn't find much on that aspect
oh and Karajorma
::hug:: (there are a bunch more of those that should be issued...the tutorial is quite handy!)

If you can run FS2_Open I recommend leanring to mod for that instead.
If you have to stick with retail your choice of how to use tables is limited.
FS2_Open is capable of understanding small snippets of the tables with only a couple of minor changes. This means that you could take your Fenris entry, slap it down in a file named something-shp.tbl, make a few minor edits and it would work.
In retail you don't have this option. If you want to add a new ship you must add it to the ships.tbl (or replace an existing ship) and replace the entire table by placing it in Freespace2\Data\Tables. If you're doing that I'd advise that you start with the table in
this rar file as I've already done some search and replace tricks on it to make it much smaller.

Yeah, Karajorma made a mistake there, cube-shp.tbl won't do anything, you'd have to make it cube-shp.tb
m for it to work.
BTW, since you've hugged Kara, how about joining his fan club?

I don't want to "reopen" a discussion or waste space so here's where i'll put this.....
How would i go about puting the scorpion fighter into fs2? I read a bunch of stuff on karajorma's FAQ, but not much makes sense to me! I'll learn one day, but i just don't get it...
Thanks in advance!

Here... Now with hi-res maps (courtesy of freespaceking)!
Unzip .dds files to mod\data\maps
Unzip .pof file to mod\data\models
Unzip .tbm file to mod\data\tables
Please note that this will only work with FS2_Open, not retail.

what about weapons? they have more fun features than ships!
(FOF, shots, particle spew, local SSM, EMP, ect.)

If anyone has time, please upload any completed HTL ships you have to F2S providing you've got the information on hand.

Anything that's not there, sure thing. Although some mods are very obsolete now
