****Don't kill me****

Is their anything that has not been done to save the idea of Freespace 3?
Volition wanted to make it right?
But I am still not fully clear on the subject.
So far, all propaganda has pointed me to the blaming of interplay. Are these the people to blame? and if a FS3 is so desperatly wanted then why have they not come to their senses and allowed [V] to make it? if well made amd properly marketed they both could make a fortune!

So I ask you this; is their anything that has not been tried?

1) Interplay are bankrupt and don't have the dosh to publish anything. And the rights haven't been bought by anone else.
2) V have expressed an interest but the chaps who made FS1 & 2 don't work there anymore so it doesn't really matter if V do it or not. Plus they're latest game was wank.
3) The PC Space sim is pretty much a dead genre so it would probably be console only

One of all of the above

What game was wank? was it a freespace game that you are talking about or one of their new crap-piles? and what if someone bought the rights?

We've got the SCP. That can do more than FS3 probably ever could, given the poor quality of many space-sims these days.

the PC space sim genre may be dying, but as long as i'm alive it sure ain't dead. Provided your all still alive by the time i get out of collage, i'll be making big pushes on space-sim games. I'm a space-sim fanatic, and i'm a game designer and i'm a game programmer. Hell, what do you think Openlancer's trying to do? Make a better ****ing spacesim!

Of course in all technicality thats off-topic, but my point is that PC space sim genre isn't going to be dead as long as i'm alive.

As for FS3, no hope whatsoever. Go DL a mod for FS2_open.

You know what i say to you? Freelancer 2!

Over at HLP, IceFire posted the awnser you're looking for, and to be quite honest, he'd be one of the best and most credible sources of information, because he's actually been to the Volition studio.

So yeah. I won't repeat it because I'm sick and tired of explaining and re-explaining and re-re-re-explaining the same story.

I know that FS3 is in the hands of the community. We can see the non-production of FS3 as a good thing, so it will inspire countless modders from far and wide, to wonder exactly what happened after the Second Shivan incursion, and to make their own campaigns about just that. I know as I have had it explained to me countless times that a [V] FS3 will never be produced. Mostly on this very thread. So next time

Read the whole thread before you come in ranting about the already realised unless you have a valid reason to explain it further to me. I was developing my own FS3-style forty mission long campaigns LOOOOOOOOOOONG before I even discovered this site and even THOUGHT about a [V] FS3. But I am a die-hard FreeSpace fanatic and I will NOT stop secretly hoping for a FS3, even if I had to buy Volition themselves and the FS3 rights from Interplay. Plus, this topic has not been brought up since AUGUST so did you REALLY think that it needed/we wanted an answer?

Why does this always happen in forums I moderate? :p

Seriously though, hopefully there will soon be something on the mainpage of HLP that will cover most questions regarding FS3. There's nothing wrong with asking, as such, but there's a reason people explode when you do, don't take it personally, it's not really your fault, it's sort of the fault of the 50 people before you who asked the same question ;)

I'm going to lock this, no-one to blame, but the last thing we need is a dose of the current HLP snappiness in here.
