Oh noes. (Thinking of starting a project...)

So ngt's sitting here one day, and he thinks "Hey, this campaign idea looks nice. But it's going to take forever to get it done on my own. Maybe I should try to set up a project and squeeze hosting out of Matt or Hunter. Ehhhh..."
Since at least a few of you people are running your own mod teams, I figured perhaps I ought to ask for advice/warnings/OH MY GOD MAN, DON'T DO IT! before commiting to anything.

Yikes.
Only take it on if you have the time.
If your going to get more people to join make sure they have the time to contribute or keep them as rogues.
Oh, and lead by example. If the project leader keeps outputting great stuff reguarly, then other members will want to meet his/her expectations. This is why starfox and BSG mods are so successfull I think, the leaders are pouring so much effort into getting it done, it really inspires the other guys to keep going.
TAP for example, over the past with each new project leader has gone really well but then they'd run out of time and eventually stop giving outputs. It's the same deal with me, with so much stuff in RL, I've been unable to make any significant contributions in a while. It really slows things up. The best way to kick start a project is to keep at least 1 person with unfallible enthusiasm to keep everyone inspired.
That said, the human resource pool in the FS scene has kind of dried up recently, most people are already on a team or two and have RL commitments to boot.
I'd say consider making a different sort of project out of it first. Or completely designing it on paper / doc first. Maybe make it a story first, then ask if people would help contribute to make a campaign out of it.
But yeah, what ever your choice. Good Luck.

Well, if you actually need missions I could help. Since I can't do anything more with SA until Sesq shows up again.

I wish I took the time and had the patience to FRED. Id have a campaign done already with my ships and crap. :/

Not necessarily, I was fairly competent with FRED and had the storyline for my campaign all set out. Into The Maelstrom stalled simply because I lost interest.
One of the best versions involved the "frontier regions" and I spent weeks fine tuning an escort mission where you had to defend gas miners from Vasudan attackers. I finally got it right, but I'd burned myself out. I couldn't really look at FRED for months.

In any case this would be for an indeterminate future date; I want to finish at least the first episode of my current campaign first. (Which to my surprise seems to only be about five and a half missions from completion. o,0 Done for Christmas at the outside, then, I guess.)

I'd be asking you right now if it wasn't for the pesky issue of texturing a Vasudan pilot.
And er, building models and stuff.
