How far do you think you've come in life?

Aprox. Earth radius = 6,378km
Latitude for Lurgan (my home) = 53.9250

Circumference of earth at latitude = 2 pi r cos(x)
= 2 pi 6378 cos 53.9250
= 23,597km

Earth rotates once per 24 hours so distance travelled in one day = 23,597km

365.25 days in one year

Distance travelled on earth in one year assuming you stay roughly in one place ->

365.25 x 23,597km = 8,618,956km

Earth is aprox. 146,000,000km from the sun

Thus orbit of earth = 2 x pi x r
= 917,345,055 km

Total aproximate distance moved in one year by a person standing on earth staying roughly in the same place ->

distance moved by earth around sun x distance moved by rotation of earth
= 917,345,055 x 8,618,956
= 7,906,556,664,554,392km

Total number of years I've spent on the planet = 27 (as of August 3rd)

Thus total distance moved by me assuming I've stayed roughly in the same place on the earth since birth ->

Age x Total distance moved each year
= 27 x 7,906,556,664,554,392km
= 213,477,029,942,968,574km

Note that I did an awful lot of rounding up and I'm not taking into account the fact that the sun itself is moving (and thus the solar system with it). The next time somebody thinks they haven't really gone anywhere in life tell them they move more than they realise. ;)

Indeed, it only depends on how the point of reference was selected :)
