Hi i've just completed the main campaign of FS2 having played FS1 when I was much younger, it was awesome!
I have just downloaded campaign mods onto my computer and have followed the read me. My main problem is that my computer does not recognise .VP files. Can anyone help?
Secondly I'd really like to give this game a go online, but the main PXO site isn't working, is there somewhere else to play it?
I'd appreciate any help and apologies for being a typical newbie!

Hehehe Welcome aboard

.vp files are only readable by the Freespace engine from inside the game, I'd suggest you unpack them to your main Freespace folder if you're using normal FS2.
However, if you're using normal FS2, I suggest you install Freespace 2 source code, check out Hard Light Productions to get more info on that....

That way you can create a folder for each mod, put the files for each mod in that folder and then select which one you want to play from the launcher.
As far as PXO is concerned, the original PXO closed down a long time ago, but there is a replacement in the making, it's still a bit up/down at the moment. I don't really play multiplay, so you'd probably get more help from someone else, which I'm sure will come along shortly

I personally would recommend
http://hard-light.net ahead of HardLight Multimedia.

If you do want to open up a .vp file and extract what's inside (mission files, models, music, sounds, tables, textures, etc.), I highly recommend
VP View. It's simple to set up and use.

Thanks very much for your help, I've kind of got the hang of it now (I think). I started to play the BWO demo from this website and i've now completed the 4 missions. Can anyone tell me where you can get the full version?

Cheers, thought that was a bit confusing, I couldn't find it anywhere! I've actually started to play the inferno mod (version 1). It doesn't seem to have any communications sound (people speak and I have to read!). This seems a bit hopeful, but does anyone know if there are any sound files out there?

There aren't. Most campaigns don't have any voice acting in them.
