If you're not looking for Photo manip, what are you looking for?

CS is just a new version of Photoshop, as far as I know.

Personally, I have found that unless you want to take an official class, it's best to just find whatever you want with photoshop through either internet tutorials or by your own trial and error.

CS is newer than version 7. The latest version is currently CS2.

You can learn photoshop just by experimenting, reading some books (which I never did) or by looking at some tutorials. Here is one such site: http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/Ado ... oshop/All/

Generally speaking there are a lot of good tutorials out there for making textures, as long as you're not going to try for amazing, high-poly graphics. If you want textures that will look sort of like they came out of a super nintendo game, then there are plenty of good brushes out there you can search for.

I suspect that many of the textures which went into making games like Geneforge were done using Photoshop. They probably used the various brushes and seamless tiling techniques which can easily be found on the internet. One of my favorite sites has always been Spoono. They've got some good tutorials there for a lot of different things.

But, if you're looking for things like how to make textures for Half Life 2, or something, then I have no idea.

I learned the basics off my Dad who's in the industry, and the rest I experimented with \ found online tutorials.

As for game textures...
Help me bug aldo to make a tutorial on making textures. All those textures in his Lost Souls screenshots?
They are done in photoshop, from scratch.

I've already sucked a few tips out of him, but a tutorial would be kick arse. :p

So yeah, *bugs aldo* :D
