The thread would have been headed for lockage in a page or two, given how it was progressing at the time. "Split and lock" is simply a way to remove the posts that drag a thread off-topic without losing the original, legitimate, discussion.

Well, between that response and Sandwiches, am I to understand that this is HLP's official stance on homosexuality?

I didn't understand Sandwich's post, and I can't speak for him anyway. I just did the split-and-lock because the posts were dragging the thread into immature off-topic-ness. If it had been two heterosexual forumites flirting, I would have taken the same action.
