alright... here's the deal, I've downloaded 3 of bobboau's ancient ships... the ACv Phaistos, the AB Zarkos, and the AF Kato..... They are kewl ships that i like, but i am having some troubles... I can get only one ship to work at a time... I go into the ships tbl through microsoft word, and add the info of the ship... and it works... i can fly it, use it in fred... everything works... However, when i add more then one of the ships to the ships tbl, then none of them work, and i cant even go into a mission regardless of whether or not those ships are in the mission or not. they all can however work in Fred2 at the same time... but not in the missions. I am completlely and utterly baffled... (If u havent already guessed im kinda new to this) Help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Do you have more than 130 ships in your ships table? Going over that number has been known to cause problems.

Remove the volition bravos (if you haven't already) and see if that allows you to have 2 of those ships present. (Or try an inferno build of FS2_Open)

If he's added only three ships, i don't think he would be breaking the limit. There's only 113 ship table entries by default, so adding 3 should make no difference. :\

I'd first suggest using wordpad or even notepad over MS word, since I've had and heard of problems occuring soley because of it's use - it fiddles with the format in some way.

When trying them individually, are you sure they ALL worked in-mission one by one? If not it would indicate that one of them is causing a bigger problem, preventing the others from working. :)

Yes, all three of the ships work perfectly individually, but unless i go and over right other ships to put them in, I cannot play any mission at all regardless of whether or not they include the ships i downloaded. however, i have found that if i go and overright a ship that is more or less worthless like the space hunk, and replace it with one, then i can have more than one. but if u say that the limit is 130 and i only started with 113, then there is no way that i have gone over that limit. These are the only 3 ships i have loaded. I will try opening it through other opperating systems, but if u have any more ideas, im open. thanks

what by the way is an inferno build?

A build which has increased limits, originally designed to be used on the Inferno Campaign which can be found in the hosted section at HLP.

You can find the latest one in this thread.

Hmm, perhaps the 130 limit has already been bumped by the SCP from the original limit of about 114?
I'm really not sure, but if all ships work individually, then hitting that limit is really the only reason I can think of that would prevent them from working when put together. Either way, it's quite odd. :\

Try adding 3 different ships to the table and see what happens.

Since it sounds like you're using the retail version I wonder how big is your ships.tbl in kB? Cause there is a problem if it's over ~380kB in retail.

Ah, that sounds more like it - if he's been using MS word to do the editing, I seem to recall it bloating save sizes.

w/o the changes it's @ 374Kb, and with 1 added ship it is at 379Kb, so even though im not quite completly sure what ur talking about, from what ive gotten it sounds plausible... so how might i go about fixing that?

would using VPview32 instead help that problem?

Use wordpad to edit the entries in rather than MSWord, and try to trim ships.tbl down a bit. I seem to recall changing every double space ( ) to a single space ( ) with replace cuts a bit off the filesize, though I'm not 100% sure on that.

that cut it down to 344, but it still wouldnt work... i am now officially confused as hell

If you've got webspace you can upload it and let someone take a look at it.

Links to Bob's ships will help.
