I think this is just the case of some students having the equipment lying about and spending an afternoon goofing off.
IN an office setting this involves faxing your arse to head office. In MIT it involves ridiculous research papers in an attempt to win an Ig Nobel prize.

I can see how strange things happen when people are bored. It's amazing how inovative man can be
