WEll, view the thread below, and tell me if you think it has a future... If I could get people to do this, I'd put AHTW on the back burner indefinately. I've already got the PoA, the Longsword, the Pelican, The Covie dropship, half the Truth and Reconciliation, and the textures for everything... Covie fighters would be something we'd have to make, but there are great discriptions in 2 of the 3 books, we've even got a Halo, and debris to go along with it.

This could bring FreeSpace to the eyes of everyone who plays Halo, along with the SCP, and could be just as big as the Star Wars conversion.

So take a look here;
http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freesp....umber=1

and tell me if you'd be interested in seeing it happen, and whether you'd help if it were.

I support anything that'll add diversity to FS2, but, never having played Halo, I don;t have a particularly strong opinion about whether this'd be the best possible thing to do - if the physics is similar though, and you can rip the texs and models straight out of the game without getting sued, I say go for it.

Well, legaility is the problem really, it's one thing to design new ships based on Halo, and even then that can be dodgy ground as well.

Personally, I feel the same as BW, anything that brings in more visitors to Sectorgame is good, but make sure where you stand :)

Well, I've speant the better part of the day looking through the ELUA (which comes in several dozen languages), and came up with the two statements that would have juristiction over use of the models:
<ul>
<li>Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.

</ul>
The clause above has already been voided by Gearbox AND microsoft, since MS supplied the code to th maps to the community when they made HMT open source...

The other clause that would affect the models was voided again by Gearbox and MS when THEY produced Halo Map Tools and Sparkedit, since BOTH of them have extraction tools used to extract EXACTLy what is stated in the clause:
<ul>
<li>COPYRIGHT. All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including but not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, audio, music, text, and “applets” incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT), the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are owned by Microsoft or its suppliers. All title and intellectual property rights in and to the content which may be accessed through use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is the property of the respective content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other intellectual property laws and treaties. This EULA grants you no rights to use such content. If this SOFTWARE PRODUCT contains documentation which is provided only in electronic form, you may print one copy of such electronic documentation. You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.</ul>
So, it appears that the only legalities that would interfere, were taken care of by MS themselves... :smash:

watch it, providing the tools for an action is not the same as allowing, condoning or demanding an action.

if i sell you a gun, i am not alllowing you to shoot some one (in US law anyway, if i give you an illegal gun in Holland and you shoot someone, i am an acomplice to murder/manslaughter/attempted murder)

true, buth they havent done anything with people making new Halo maps, and the school that my friend goes to has assigned his class to use Halo PC models to make a Halo Map (not to be used in game though) as a modeling assignment...
