Breaking the tank on a Gist Seraphim

We tried the bonus stage in Angel Extravagnaza and got whomped. No losses but a rather humiliating defeat considering 3 BCs (me and Yokoso in feroxes, Flip in a proph) and Hippo in a Blackbird completed the first 5 stages in an hour or so. I was trying to tank it with my ferox, but to no avail, it got through 6000 shields rather quickly and nothing much was being done to its shields.

My ferox loadout. I used this for the first 5 stages and didnt get blow 4000 shield:
2x named 150 frigate rails
5x named heavy launchers (4x malkuth and a limos) all with scourge (kin)
3 hammerhead drones

2x Large shield extenders
3x Sheild hardeners (em,kin,therm) resists of 57.5 em, 66 exp, 74 kin, 66 therm

2x CPR
2x Shield power relay

So its weaknesses are explosive damage types, especially on armor and its shields are nearly impervious to lasers. It does 28 Explosive and 8 kinetic with a 7.5x multiplier, coming out to (210 and 60) and also throws mjolnir torpedos. Its supporting cruisers also throw thunderbolt heavies so at least 2 EM hardeners are a must, 2nd would bring be up to 78.75% resist so i could tank the missiles even better than before. Also an explosive hardener would be needed to offset the insane amounts of explosive dmg being thrown as well as a kinetic hardener. So the dilemma is to drop the final large extender for another hardener or a T2 Med booster or just keep the last extender. Using the booster should allow me to throw all dmg mods in the lows as well as trade for 200mm guns in the highs. however that leaves me with 2300 shields or so. So i think the best solution would be to have a single large extender and see what i can fit around it.

Flip would probably need to modify his loadout so he wouldnt have a mishmash of guns on his proph.

My main problem was range, when you engaged at 50K, my lasers were still barely in scratch-range. I had 3 Heavy Pulse and 3 Focused Beams, the downside of lasers is I find them a lot less efficient than missiles.

I may take a Ferox if we ever go for it again to add to the Explosive hit-count.

I'd join you and help you with loadouts, but being -10 right now is kinda difficult to get into high sec. ;) Maybe in a week or two I'll get there if I kill enough NPCs.

well off to make 10000 more havoc missiles then

flip: i think the best idea would be to go for the supporting cruisers while yoko and i pound the BS with heavies. either that or wait until im in a scorp or raven :p

I probably could have half-jammed him down - i was doing good on the other smaller guys in the previous stages, but i found that when the jams fail, they aggro me - and ALL of them aggro'd me when i waited to make sure flip got out alive, even though i hadn't aggressed them, and was well out of their range...

I wasn't about to jam the BS, cause when it DID break, i'd be his target...

Yeah, EW really seems to piss off NPCs. Never use it on missions. Bad juju.

well it was working for a bit. kept those arch angel vipers and webifiers off our backs until we could destroy the cruisers.

Yeah once Yoko and Phreak had gone, I was being pounded by about 4 cruisers, 4 frigates and the BS (at 200+ per hit).
Was quite surprised to find I still had over 50% armor when I warped and I hadn't even had time to kick in the Hardeners. Will say that for the Prophy, it may only be good at 10-30km, but it's tough ;)

heh.. i need to engage at 30km then. I was a bit worried that that tower sentry III would open up once i started though. And those are bad news if they get a good shot on you. Because of the insane shield tank the BS had on EM and thermal, i think you may have been better off shooting the cruisers in a proph. However the good thing about the BC skill is that its race neutral and can use all races BCs if you have the prereqs so you could easily have jumped into a ferox. Although a cyclone wouldn't sound bad either since minimart ammo is explosive. Fusion M mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yeah, I can jump in a Ferox if needed, once I build a Ferox at least :D I came to pretty much the same conclusion as you, I had a long look at Crystals last night, I'm tending more toward X/Ray and Microwave crystals. Microwave to slightly less damage the XRay but are slightly longer range, and both do a mixture of themal and EM damage, still no good for the BS, but better for point defence.

I still think defender missiles only defending your ship is stupid.

And finally, yes, I think if that sentry had opened up, I don't doubt at least one of us wouldn't have made it back, it was one of those that took out Yoko's first BC, webbed in range of a sentry, not a nice place to be :(
