Hopefully, if our PR department (;)) is doing their job right, you've all been keeping up with TIs developments, but the new SG is a lot different to the old SG that formed the project. I'm sort of curious as to how everyone here sees it. TI's original mandate was to be a F2S community project, in many ways designed to show the HLP and VWatch juggernaut campaigns that F2S had enough local talent to produce a campaign of equal quality. I think that we're fulfilling, even exceeding that part of our aim. But we were also originally a community project, something for everyone to get involved with, have input into etc. etc. However, when SG went down and we lost a lot of the old members, I think TI drifted away from that a lot. Now that F2S seems to have restabilized, and we're slowly developing a new, at least somewhat unique community again, I'd like to at least look into opening the project up to the community a bit more.

So, what I'd like is a bit of opinion from you guys as to A - how we've been going as a true community project (not too well I'll admit :)) and B - any suggestions you might have as to ways we can improve on it. I can't guarantee beyond a doubt all suggestions will be acted on, but I can tell you for sure that we will definitely take advice under consideration.

So, post away :) Oh, and this isn;t just meant for Regulars and Vets. I'm curious about everyone - newbies who know almost nothing about TI apart from that weird flashing forum down the bottom, HLP blow-ins who've seen the odd screenie and not much else - anyone who's reistered is a part of the community and is entitled to an opinion.

I'm not really sure how much of a standing this topic has. AFAIK most of the members here joined when the site came back online, with the exception of a few others and ofcourse the Twisted Infinities team. And the real killer is there isn't really anyone here anymore, there are plenty of visitors - And often plenty of new members joining this forum, but they disappear. Why? Probably because there just isn't enough going on, and granted TI is pulling out all the stops with progressing the Source Code, but no one is really seeing it as often as they like, or too little too late. We know from experience that promotions don't go over here anymore, as hardly anyone notices or checks certain sections of the forum, this thread being evidence of that.

In the coming weeks, certain things I have planned maybe set into motion. Might take a little while longer, but I'm determined to go back on the hunt again to get this place spring cleaned. Interpret that however :)

The good thing is, despite the real slow and often tiresome forums, the site is alive and well with new projects joining up gradually. If FSCZ is onboard, that'll be the highest number of hosted Freespace sites at one time so far. As you know the site goes through waves, so it's hard to tell just how the big the next wave will be.

Perhaps it is kind of...late, but still the community we have here is as much the F2S community as before, we're just not as big or separate from the wider FS community as we were. So, if there are any opinions about what we can do to open TI up a bit more to the modern SGites, I'd like to hear them.

Besides, if we start opening upover here, we might pull some more fans over ;) :D

Personally I don't think anyone doubts good quality campaigns can be made outside of HLP and VW, though HLP's Forums is what has made it so prominent, after the collaspe of the VBB most people either went to VW or HLP which at the time HLP sounded like a good place... "bringing modders together" or something on those lines, VW was primarly focused on games pertaining to V's work, eg Freespace, Red Faction and Summoner Game Series so it wasn't like dedicated. Currently the only thing I believe is keeping VW alive is BWO and TBP, other than that or once those are complete VW will be less populated or visited.

Although I think HLP is good in so many ways I do believe that there should be a central place for forums for the Freespace2 Community that is not soley run by one group. This should have been done some time ago. Currently there are too many forums to check into, people might think 3 is not much but I tend to think 3 is a big number especially when u regular visit other forums on other topics. So I think if there were one primary freespace forum for all campaigns people would tend to visit all 3 sites (HLP, VW, SG) more often.

As for SG becoming more popular 'TheShivan' has got one point straight, get more content. This I would imagine is the only reason HLP is so frequently visited because new content is coming from members in the forum, and the SCP project is something everyone choses to look constantly forward to, and last but most of all the community exists there the most.

:headbang:

You probably all know this stuff already, but I have some suggestions that might be a good idea. Talk with VW about the Campaign Watch Archives, after checking its non-existence perhaps one of the many staff there may still have a backup of files that were once there. Some one really needs to put up a Campaign/Mission Archive, because several missions are getting lost forever, some maybe good, others might not be but the community is going to need one sooner or later.

I think this response is in reply to what you've asked, I'm still doubting it myself, if I come up with anymore I'll inform you. Well of course I have some ideas now but there not in scope. ;)

A mission database is something I've considered in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 oh and ... 2004. It's just so much work and no time at all, especially since VW already HAS most of them, and if they don't work, they still HAVE them :)

8
I know its a lot of work, VW may still have them but most are not online anymore, take for example 'The Babel Effect' or the 'Aeos Affair' which the site may still exist but the downloads are not there, same goes for 'Twlight' and 'Derelict'. All I'm saying is it would be a good addition, and seeing it is time consuming perhaps someone will consider taking this mighty task up one day. :)

9
They're not online because they haven't been kept after. But someone over there still actually HAS them, and all they need to do is repair those links and walla. I have no illusions that Freespace 2 Sector is a *dead* horse, and I have no problem with that anymore TBH. It's more than outlived it's lifetime, and is not much more than a "Passer by" website now. The forums and their project websites are the only active content really going right now - People need to just make the right turns :)

Mods and stuff is what we're all about, but since the SCP the submission of modifications have gone down to nothing. If anything, I would definitely consider having every single mod I've not got put on the site - Up to date and all. As for the missions idea, well that depends on A. What I'm doing in the summer B. If I can be bothered to get the willpower for it C. If people are willing to help gather these missions.

yeah, Hunter, it might be a good idea to PM Icefire and ask him if he needs hosting.

as for TI, i know it will be atmospheric, feature very, very pretty asteroids (looking at the screenies, i can't get my staff to tbl the sample :uzi: :uzi: :uzi: ), and i know it'll be giving the mod and fred community some nice extra tricks.

Kasp, I'll do a quick tbl entry for that asteroid, the trick is to assign it as a really tough cargo container ;)
