FS1: Movie skippings?

I'm a newbie to the Freespace community, and I've recently purchased Freespace Battlepack (FS1+Silent Threat).
Now, it's is to my dismay that the movie playback seems to skip it sounds from time to time after a few seconds or more.
Sounds like a buffering problem, but I also had the same problem when viewing the Freespace 2 trailer.
My specs are:
Pentium III 800Mhz
Geforece 2Ti 64MB
SBLive sound card
running Win98SE as the OS.
Any suggestions?

I had skipping when my old video card/system ram couldn't keep up with the stream of video.

True but that PC should be able to keep up with the FS1 movies.
Standard advice is to make sure you have the latest drivers etc.
Not a cure but the FS1 movies in avi form are available from
here.
The movies are played in this order.
Intro
Ancients 1
Lab
CommandBrief
Ancients 2
Hallfight
Ancients 3
Ancients 4
Ancients 5
Endgame
At least you can just Alt Tab out and play them in your movie player until you can fix this

He should check to make sure he has RAM available. Something might be eating up too much. And he didn't post how much he has.

Also check the actual CD itself, see if it runs fine on another machine you may have access to. I had a Descent 3 disc once that was very jittery only in movie playback, overtime I replaced the copy and the movie playback was fine.
Chances are though, something is messing with the playback. I guess maybe a background task, too, might cause that...

Well,
I have a 256 MB SDRAM...
and also, I've tried running the executable Freespace 2 Trailer and had the same problems.

No idea what the solution is then. Best I can do is suggest you play the
port to FS2 on
SCP enhanced FS2 instead.
