My Father's in the Hospital

1
My dad's up at Parkridge Medical Center in Chatanooga, TN, waiting to go into some surgery, as I post this. I'm not disappearing since we do have a family member (my uncle) up there and the family isn't very worried about it.

The surgery itself is relatively simple. They're going to add another wire to the defibrilator in his chest, turning it into a pacemaker and attempting to get the ventricles of his heart working properly again. It's not very dangerous and he's expected to be out of the hospital by the end of the week, which is why I'm two-three hours away at college rather than in Chatanooga as we speak.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I'm posting this. Probably just to relieve some of the tension and nervousness that always accompanies having a family member in a situation like this. Anyway, I'm sitting here, probably more keyed up than my father is over the whole thing.

Good luck with that.

My dad's side of the family has lots of heart problems. My grandfather died of a heart failure last week(why i was gone for a while). So we are all very aware of the dangers here.

Thanks, guys. I didn't expect anything like this, but I probably should have.

Benny, my grandmothed died a couple of years ago from congestive heart failure. You have my deepest sympathies.

Yep, best of luck.

My dad had a heart attack last year (wasn't serious, his anti-cholestrol / stress medication was unbalanced; he didn't have an op, only an angiogram to check his ventricles), twas a hellish time. So I understand the nervousness completely :)

Not really, since he's out of surgery and in recovery, doing great. He's in good spirits and I'm going to dig out the hospital number and get his room number in a bit, give him some time to rest.

Thanks, guys.

Hope everything comes out okay.

Kinda makes you wish they'd speed up artificial heart development doesn't it.

He'll be recovered in no time, you'll see. Don't worry..

Then there's the surgery in 60-90 days...

I'm feeling a lot less nervous now that he's out. I'm fine once they're done and he's awake. It's waiting for surgery, during it, and waiting for him to wake up that tends to upset me.
