Ship locations

A while ago, I was working on a mission and went to test it, when abruptly all the ships were in apparently random locations. In FRED they were still in their correct places, but for some reason in FS2 they were all over the place. I fiddled around for a while trying to fix it, and failed. Recently I've had the same problem again. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any idea what causes it?

Never seen or heard of it before.
Can you post the mission? If you don't want to give the plot away just delete all the events and briefings (check the problem is still there) and post that.

you could maye remake the mission. occasionally thats easier than working out a problem...

It's also a severe pain in the ass and very time-consuming.
We're willing to help you fix the problems... and this sounds like a doozy.

Make sure to make all ship that are in the area from the beginning
like this (in ship editor).
Location : "near ship" and
Target :"any enemy"
To be honest, I'm not so 100% sure what the effect off all the selections
there are in effect, but when I had the same starting troubles I get used
to make it like this, and it works pretty fine.
Maybe it will solve your problem.

Starman: That's not the sort of problem I'm having. The ships are there from the start, just floating along. They're in the right place in FRED, the coordinates are right and everything, but for some reason FS2 itself feels the need to spew everything out into different places.

I gave the mission a try but everything seemed fine to me.
How far is FS2 putting things out of place? Only a few metres? Or a a couple of km out?

It seems that the Poseidon and the player get thrown a few k's out (or everything else gets thrown away from them) and the player is bumping into the Poseidon at the start.

Perhaps some varient of the player entry delay error? If they were supposed to be following wapoints along the way, and you arrive 2 or 3 minutes late, that could very seriously skew locations...

Hmm, that makes sense. But the Poseidon is supposed to be following a waypoint as well, and the player appears right next to it.

Is the player entry location set to be right next to the poseidon?

Nope, the Poseidon's about 200 metres away in FRED.

I think he means the arrival cue, not just its physical placement in FRED...

Well, all of the ships' arrival cues are set to Hyperspace and at the start of the mission (true).

Could it be to do with the way ships drift away from their arrival point when they warp in?
